Here is what I remember about Bob and Peg walking to camp. I started crying for Bob, because I was so happy for him.
He won a visit with Peg and she was going to spend time with Bob and us at camp. When Bob stopped and said "Hey watch this and he looked over his shoulder" I said to Bob "Don't be bleeping with us Bob!" He blew a whistle with his fingers and we saw our family members come over the savanna. I knew they were there when he blew the whistle! I felt it, I knew it, but was not entirely absolute, because this game puls the "wild card' when you least expect it, so figured we had all lost our chance to see our loved ones. It was a perfect afternoon, but long enough. I was very grateful to have gotten that gift. A time for us, Todd and Me to share. Bob was great to have given us that. He could choose time alone with Peg or share with us an dquite frankly everyone one of us would have done that, I'd like to believe. It was magnificant! Susie

OK Susa, I am going to take advantage of the Q & A thread.
How many votes did you figure you would receive from the jury. You had a few months between filming and the finale, did it drive you crazy?? Thanks again!!!!

No it did not. It drove my husband nuts though. I just kept telling him it didn't matter.
I was not worried. I know I should have thought about it more, but I just didn't. I was so busy back to work and life, well my thoughts were always somewhere else. Thanks for the question. Susie

Do you ever sleep? Who are the ladies in the picture with you?

Those ladies are my sisters. I am missing my little sister in that picture.
I did sleep in incerments only. I closed my eyes an ddoesed off when I could, when I felt tired from carrying firewood all day or carryign water to boil. I made sure to wear myself out as much as possilbe, that helped me sleep an hour or 2 at a time. Bob never slept either. Sleep was presious and it only came in increments here and there. Thanks again for the questions. Susie

Susie, everyone always talks about lack of sleep. Why is is so hard to sleep out there? I have done my fair share of camping out under the stars with no real
comforts. Is it stress from the game? Lack of food and water? I would think you would be very tired?

It's the game. I think it's in you head and you think about it all the time. I was focused at watching
the people around me and working, so that made me tired. This is not a normal circunstance like camping when you go prepared. I mean you have to fend for yourself. You are forced to work together to prepare for a challenge or figure out how much rice to cook ect.. The gorund is not soft. At Fang they laid down grass, but the negative to that is the grass is full of ants, lots of ants and they bite while you sleep. Lack of food helped some of the players just sleep. I slept when I could, but so many times I was thinking of what I needed to get done during down days, when should I go collect wood, carry water, wash the dishes, clean the ground around camp. For me it wasn't boring. Sleep just didn't come easy for some of us and easy for others. I believe it's the game. When you camp it's with family and friends and you know you have for the most part neccessities, but when you get thrown into the savannas and the jungle you better figure what you need to do to get comfortable and eat. Fire was huge and keeping it. I've camped many times before. Being with stangers and not knowing what was going to happen next was an unfamiliar setting, it really is. I am not always comfortable when I go camping, but I enjoy it a lot more, because I am with my family, not stangers. Strangers become your close family when you are out there and you have to rely on them for the most basic things, like conversation, physical touch, help, and being liked or just being treated as a human. hard to explain, but that's kind of how I felt and took this experience. I speak for myself, so someone else may have a different opinion. Thanks again Susie

Great answer about the sleep Susie, all very good points. I don't know if you can answer this one or not, but how soon were you able to talk to your
family? Did you get to call them immediately after the final tibal or did you have to wait even longer? What about the others who were voted off, did they get
letters from home, a phone call, or even their luxury items?

Yes these are questions I better not asnwer. It's not really anything to worry about though, because
you go home call or not, you go home. Thanks for the question though. I understand asking them, I wanted to know too. I remember
Thanks Susie

Darn it, I was afraid you would say that... oh well, can't blame a girl for askin'
How about this one... I know that you were the worker bee of the season, but since Bob was so creative, did he (or anybody else) come up with any games or diversions? On previous seasons they have made little toys and games, for instance one season they painted leaves to use as playing cards... anything fun like that to pass the time and lift spirits? Crystal, Kenny, Bob, and I played naming the capitals of the US states. That was fun and we got stuck on a couple states. It really botherd us for a while, not
sure we ever did figure it out. I think like Virginia and or the Carolinas we had a hard time figuring out the capitals. LOL
We'd say a state and then we'd have to name the capital. Taking turns or we'd think about it trying to guess just made an afternoon or evening by the fire pass by. I enjoyed it actually. Bob and I kept busy making sleeping mats at Kota, weaving these long palms. Man those suckers had pricks and they'd poke ya, God that hurt!! We plugged away. I bet I made 5 or so. I gave a couple to Dan, one to Corinne, and for Crystal when they came to Kota. I mean the mats were nice to sleep on as not to get too dirty and at least they were a bit soft. No games though. I did carve a small tiny little spoon for myself, but never had to use it since we used parts of the tree mail pieces (the clues we got through tree mail) to eat our rice and then when we won the spoons and cups with the pastries, well just didn't need my tiny wood spoon. I brought it home with me anyway. Susie

Also Crystal helped me to make a bracelet and Sugar taught her. Once we merged, Sugar helped me make 2 more so I could give one to my boy and my husband. We
used different beads form the torches and the beads from the warrior day, when we had to paint our facesa nd use clothes and beads to make ourselves up. I
brought home a few necklaces I made with the beads, just fun to keep busy that way.

Susie, thanks again for the info you've been willing to pass along. Its nice to get an idea of what the experience is like for those of us who've often
thought, dreamed, and imagined what it would be like for us. I have another question for you . . . how often were you cold out there? Was temperature a
significant concern?
|
|||
susa1 |
|||
|
Not for me. I only felt chilly a couple times at Kota, otherwise I never felt cold. I've always been hot blooded so usually I just don't get cold. I
know some of the players were cold at night. Iowa winters are cold usually last 4 months, so I didn't think it was that cold. I don't think it ever got
below 50-55, but maybe it did I couldn't tell.
Thanks Again Susie

Hello Susie, thanks for coming back regularly and responding.
Was the Kota camp colder than the Fang camp? Or were those days just colder days? I know you can't discuss some details, but what aspect of this experience provided the biggest surprised for you personally? |

Hey Susie,

I felt it was colder at Kota, because we did not have blankets. Fang was cold the first few days, but again after getting blankets it wasn't bad at all.
Not sure I can answer the camera question, but if you go to other blogs or go so cbs or tv guide you'll get a chance to see how seg operates (There are mini videos out there). It's actually quite interesting. Have any of you watched the TV Guide channel? They have Sugar doing the revealing of the S18 castmembers. BYW she did a great job!! Anyway they talk about a lot of the questions you all are asking. Watch it and maybe you can catch it on the interent too. Thanks Susie
