That reminds me of the Chase Corporate Challenge run they had in downtown Chicago on Thursday @ 7:10 PM. 23,603 people in a 3.5 mile race. This was the first time I entered so I wasn't actually trying that hard, nor had I actually trained. We had about 200 folks from our company attend and took 4 luxurious coach busses there. I actually had a clothing malfunction on my right foot which caused a major blister before I even got there. Apparently I had missed the top two shoe lace holes on the right shoe and when I realized I had forgotten my number in my office just running back to get it at the last minute messed up my foot. When I got to the race all I could manage to do was to stick some soft cushy napkins in my sock and in the shoe to cushion my heel. By the end of the race my foot was a big bloody wet mess and it's only starting to stop oozing now. Gross. At least I have an excuse for my super slow time of 42:55. Next time I'll need to start further up with the competitive runners instead. It took a full four minutes just to get to the starting gate in the non-competitive crowd and then it was a very slow jog for several hundred feet after that plus a couple of bottlenecks at turns where everything came to a crawl. Oh well, it was fun even if I forgot the point I was trying to make.

Even my boss who turned 63 that day beat me by about 10 minutes. Always let the boss win!

Yeah, this whole year has been all about setting lowered expectations for myself with regards to the boss and the company. The mere fact that I've been banished to a software group (due to outsourcing of integrated circuit micro-chip design) means I can pretty much underwhelm everyone for at least a year or two. It would be wise to go to a different company before my skills get rusty but in the meantime I'm enjoying setting low benchmarks. It's awesome fun for a change and I can drop the type-A personality at work for a while. Like I've said before this would be a great time to go play Survivor.
