To all you 35-45 year old white, heterosexual, suburban males with a wife and kids out there applying, take heart - there is one less applicant out looking for
the 1 in 20,000 shot at playing the game. After approximately 10 applications and hearing nothing but crickets I'm moving on. I also came to the
realization that if someone did this type of thing in a relationship it would be referred to as stalking. I can't rationalize this by calling it
"dedication" or a hobby anymore. I enjoyed applying but I should have stopped four years ago. In retrospect, I think what I should have done was to
purchase $40 in lottery tickets twice a year - same odds and perhaps a different outcome. If I can get my act together, I'll post my previous application
and video as an example of what doesn't work.
Adios amigos and good luck. Rich |

Hi Rich,
I hear everything you are expressing. I swore off applying for the last 3 seasons for all the same reasons you are saying. There is no great thing to tell you as this is one situation without a satisfactory conclusion for most of us. All I will say is that for whatever strange reason, I am jumping back into the arena - but with a different attitude and different belief about who I'd be on this show and what I would want to get from it. It might be the final nail or the saving hail mary. Who knows? It has become much more about me and far less about rejection/winning and SEG, so it is somehow more tolerable. Good luck to you. Hopefully you got something positive for yourself out of this temporary obsession: learned something new, found some clarity, established priorities in your life. SOMETHING!! That's my hope for all of us. Thanks for the post. I personally find a lot of solace in hearing how others work through this crazy desire of all of ours. Christi |

DrMo...if you really believe it in your heart that you should quit, then by all means, you should quit! But remember it took me 11 tries to get a call...and I
finally made it on the show. I only heard crickets all 10 times prior. No call, no hope, didn't even know if they had recieved my application. So...I
completely understand your frustration but it's not stalking, it's called determination and persistence and eventually, if it's meant to be, it
will pay off. I always said I was going to keep trying, no matter what, so I wouldn't have to wonder "What if...?"
But like I said, if your heart is telling you to quit, you should quit. My heart never told me to quit. Leslie |

DrMo - Maybe a little break will do you good. Every once in a while it is good to redefine who you are and what you expect to get out of the application
process. Never give up though if this is your dream. I have applied since season 5 and have heard crickets at least 5 times. I also was sent to the finals for
BB4 and made it on TAR due to my Survivor applications. Casting is putting together a big puzzle each season just because your piece hasn't fit yet
doesn't mean it won't sooner or later.
Think of the positive things you have gotten out of applying Here are just a few of mine: - I ran my first marathon because I wanted to put something cool on my application-running all 50 States now - I have made some great friendships on this board - I have entertained my family with my wacky application videos and have even used them as extras. - It has inspired me to always drop about 10 pounds before I shoot my video - It has made great conversation at parties - I love the rush of when the phone rings after I sent in my application - |

Thank you one and all - this board is one of the things I liked about the application process - the sharing of experiences and genuine hope that the
application process brings out.
Christi - I agree, if something changes or I get an incredible inspiration for a new video, I'm all over it but that's what it'll take. Over the years I've done four separate video concepts. I enjoyed each one and my camera and editing skills are now solid to the point where I'm thinking of doing a short film. Leslie - It's awesome that it worked for you and it's especially awesome that you share your enthusiasm and spirit with the gang here. THANK-YOU. SunnyDays - You make some absolutely excellent points and each one resonates with me and my application experience (except the call backs and successes of course). Perhaps when/if I get a great new idea for a tape I'll give it a shot. My last thought and it may resonate with others out there...do you share your passion for applying (along with the associated rejection) with everyone in your personal and professional lives? I always found it difficult to share this outside of a select few. Most of us don't generally have to deal with this type of rejection since most of us are able to achieve most goals we lay out for ourselves. It's sort of a suburban work ethic - want something? - all you have to do is work hard to achieve it. This application process is brutal with the lack of feedback. Again, thanks for the support, guidance and laughs. I'll find a way to post my application and video. Gallant - my video, my floppage

And I went extremely extreme this time. I really hope the fruit of labor and suffering paid off.
By extreme, it takes an iron will, grim determination and consistency to even make that kind of commitments that I never realized that I had. |

Mo,
Ok here is my two cents. What the hell you thinking!!! What is this .... take my ball and go home attitude!! Just because I didn't get picked....I am not applying...blah blah blah... I have done it too; it justified to me when I didn't apply because of something in my life. Yeah ya didn't apply oh well, pick yourself up and apply next time or the time after. To stop because you are upset that they didn't pick you.... baby. Again we have all been there, if there is anything you know is you do enjoy filling out the app and making the video. Who cares if you get picked or not we are all family here. We all root for the other and just hope that one day one of us gets picked, so we can say he is part of the Pygmy family. Am I right all??! |

Right on! After all, Survivor won't be around forever. Might as well try to get on as long as it lasts.

The problem is that the first time I applied I got very close to getting on. then just when I was ready to give up I get the call for S12 and then S14. Just curious as to what " very close" is?? Finals? Van ride to C.B.S.? Alternate? |
