I've heard it said in a couple places that they often skip right over the semi-finals and straight to the finals in L.A. for a lot of contestants. What do y'all think? Any proof for or against this notion?

Hey Omega... welcome to the island.
They haven't gone out to the cities for 3-4 seasons now. They sort through the applications and tapes and limit the ones that fit their needs... and then make interview calls to see if people are truly whom they seem to be in the application. If after a mini interview on the phone, the put them on short list.... some they send packets out to because they think they will be good enough, others they keep on hold. After they put the reel together of possible hopefuls for the producers.... they make the invitation calls out to the ~ 50 peeps who get to go to LA. After one interview with Lynne Spillman, she decides if you are who you say you are and either invites you to stay for the finals or tags you for early exit the next morning. If you stay, you get the battery of interviews and psychological and physical tests ... if they still like you, you get to interview with the producers, and then if they really like you, you sit with the CBS suits... and if they still like you ... you go to the island. |

Well geez, I'm away from the show for a couple seasons, and it all changes. I suppose in the grand scheme of things, this new way is better (minus all the
recruits). Less "rounds" to get your hopes up. Oh well, Someone at that mythical Santa Monica address signed for my application the other day --
first application ever. Do they still operate on roughly the same schedule?

Yes, but it fluctuates a bit... You could get a call today... or in 6 weeks... since they do more by telephone ... you could expect it anytime.

Seriously? They skip the semi-final interviews in the various citieis now? Then what's the point of having you put your closest interview city all over
your application?

Hey Phleg... long time no see...
They put the cities there so they can find the Californians easier..

Yeah, I been doing other stuff, just decided to send in a crappy application again and stopped in here to catch up on things. So seriously, when did they do
away with the city interviews? Also heard some rumor this is old vs. young season, any truth to that?

hey pygmy
what's in the "packet" that you said they send to some people? and are there people who have been cast after making it to the finals before, and then being turned down (so they've made it to the finals more than once before they're actually chosen?) |

Kathy from last season was called back after being to the finals. They have a database of folks... they remember everyone who has been out there. The packet
is just the basic semi-finals stuff with extra info and extra releases etc....
